These guys did a beautiful job for a fair price for us. Drainage work. 5 stars! Highly recommend!
We contacted Montpelier Grading about regrading our long driveway, adding new gravel and to solve a drainage issue by our garage/barn. They responded promptly with a quote, we said yes, and within two days they were here! In 1 1/2 days, they have done a stellar job! On the job early, happy and cheerful. Skilled and neat. They paid special attention to details, did not mess the place up and were so careful around my flower beds. They had an eye for all the edges and curves. They listened carefully to my suggestions to amend some curves and took special care to get it all right.
The work is marvelous and the team was a pleasure to work with! John and his team are the best! We highly recommend them with complete confidence!

Montpelier Grading completed drainage installation around a portion of our 1960 Richmond West End Tri-level and did a great job. John was good to work with. He was responsive to emails and spent a good amount of time discussing options and what might be the best approach for our situation. The crew did a very careful job of hand digging near our foundation in order to avoid hitting water or gas lines and used machinery elsewhere. Along with the drainage work, Montpelier Grading also removed an old walkway and regraded our front yard. I am very happy with the work they did and would definitely work with them again. It looks great, and it is ready for new landscaping!
The back yard of my rental property was the lowest point in the neighborhood, so all the rainwater from both side neighbors, as well as the neighbor in the back, would collect in the yard and keep it a muddy mess. The tenants complained constantly about not being able to go in the yard, and their dogs would come back into the house and make a muddy mess. In the spring, I got an estimate from a company in Rockville to address the problem, with grading, topsoil, and new drains. His quote was $10,000. So I got another estimate from Montpelier Grading. John, the owner, came out and did a thorough evaluation of the problem. He was very knowledgeable, and his estimate was only about $2,200 for more extensive work than the first company suggested.
John personally came out with his crew, and they re-graded the entire back yard, roto-tilled the soil, put in some drains to catch and re-direct the water away from the yard and house, put in another downspout, added downspout extensions and underground piping to divert more water, put in a French drain, added gravel under the gutters, brought in a truckload of fresh, quality topsoil, then re-seeded the entire yard and protected it with straw. Amazing transformation.
He also did extra work that was not required. He weeded and roto-tilled the 2 raised garden beds that the tenants had (making them ready for spring planting). He also had his crew cut + weeded the grass in the front yard,) since the tenants went out of town for a week while the work was being done),... and the grass was tall.
I was blown away by the scope and quality of his work, as well as the attention to detail and the extra things that he did, which he noticed, and he did not charge for the extra things that he did. He was very good about returning calls and keeping me updated on the progress of the work. It took his crew about 2-3 days to complete the job, and the cost of $2,200 was worth every penny. The yard is great now, with absolutely no drainage issues or muddy puddles after a big rainstorm. Incredible.
I was 100% completely satisfied with the work in general, and with John in particular. It is rare to find someone who provides outstanding work that is above and beyond what is expected. You will not be disappointed with the quality of this company's work. Excellent !
